A Note to the Curious Muggle
If you’re reading this because you think that I believe in telekinesis, transfiguration, or that I can cast fireballs, rest assured I am mostly sane. I recognize the constraints of the real world and science. My beliefs mostly lie in my definition of the word “energy”. One definition of this word is “the property of matter and radiation which is manifest as a capacity to perform work”. This is the definition that speaks most to the way energy is used in witchcraft in my opinion. I believe that energy can come in forms that may not yet be perceivable by scientific instruments, and can be utilized. I find that things we may perceive as inanimate objects can carry their own form of energy. I believe plants have their own individual energy. I think that our thoughts and feelings have very strong energy. What I consider to be “witchcraft” is sensing and harnessing those energies. There are so many things still in this amazing world we live in that is unexplained by science. Some people explain this through religion and spiritualism. This is how I personally interpret life’s miracles, and attempt to wield it’s power.
A Note to my Witchy Kin
There are so many ways to be a witch. In the internet age we all live in, there are a million labels and constraints that we can put upon ourselves. I try to use the broadest terms I possibly can because my belief is that all religions and spiritualists are using different names for very similar concepts and shared beliefs. I’m going to use terms like “energy”, “life force” and “the universe” in place of terms like God, gods, soul, etc because it covers a wider range of belief systems. Insert whatever terms you prefer while we discuss the complexities of magick. Speaking of magick, I choose to add the “k” at the end to differentiate the spiritual practice from stage performance or fantasy. Aleister Crowley coined the term for those reasons, and since we live in a world of muggles I find it to be important to separate the two for the sake of clarity. Lastly, I call non-witches muggles. It’s a fun word, and we all know what it means so I’m rolling with it.
Magic is just science that we don’t understand yet
